Jackson County VINELink Coverage
North Carolina calls its notification service NC SAVAN, the North Carolina Statewide Automated Victim Assistance and Notification system. The public search and registration interface is VINELink. State policy documents that SAVAN connects directly with the OPUS state correction database and that North Carolina county jails also use the network. That makes the service relevant to both Jackson County Detention Center and NCDAC custody, but the two feeds remain distinct.
VINELink is free and anonymous to use. The person in custody is not told who registered. A participating record can support a current custody check and notices for release, transfer, or another reported change. State-prison events can include a projected release date after admission audit, release with supervision, release without supervision, escape and capture, minimum-custody change, death, and home leave. The exact events and labels depend on the source record.
A county-jail result describes what Jackson County reports. An NCDAC result describes state prison or state supervision. VINELink is not a certified release certificate, a complete historical archive, or a federal inmate locator. A missing name may stem from spelling, data delay, agency participation, or a closed record. It does not prove that the person was released.
Search Jackson County VINELink Records
Open the North Carolina VINELink entry point and choose the appropriate people or custody search. Use the person's legal name or available identification information. Partial-name options can help with spelling, but they can also create several close matches. Compare the agency, identifier, age or birth information, and other displayed facts before opening a record.
- Select North Carolina. Confirm that the page is the state NC SAVAN/VINELink service.
- Enter the full legal name or an available identifier. Use a partial name only when a careful broader search is needed.
- Compare all returned candidates. Do not choose a person solely because the name resembles the one sought.
- Open the matched record and identify whether Jackson County Detention Center, NCDAC, or another agency supplied it.
- Read the exact custody status and event date. Save the record identifier and the time of the check.
For a person who has already left and no longer has an active VINELink record, use the records and agency sequence on the Jackson County released inmate search. The county booking/release record, court case, and NCDAC history are better long-lived sources than an alert service.

A sentenced state record may also expose projected or actual release information. The field set is not uniform. Record the wording that appears rather than changing every status to “released.”

“Out of custody” does not always mean return to the community. The person may have transferred to NCDAC, another county, ICE, or a federal agency. A projected date is not proof that the event happened. When the release type or destination matters, ask Jackson County Detention Center or NCDAC for the official record and check the court file for the reason behind the custody change.
Note: Save the exact VINELink label and reporting agency; paraphrasing a transfer as release can create a false custody conclusion.
Register Jackson County Release Alerts
From a matched active record, select “Get Notifications” or the equivalent current control. Available delivery methods can include telephone, text, email, or an app notice. Enter a contact point controlled by the registrant. Complete any verification prompt and save the registration or confirmation number. Contact information should be updated if it changes.
North Carolina also provides the NC SAVAN telephone service at 1-877-627-2826. For telephone registration, official state material instructs the user to enter a phone number with area code and create a memorable four-digit PIN. When an event call arrives, listen to the message and enter that PIN to acknowledge receipt. Without acknowledgment, the system can repeat calls during a period of up to 24 hours.

- Choose one or more available channels, such as phone, text, email, or app notification.
- Enter and verify the destination. Do not register someone else's contact information.
- Create and retain the four-digit PIN for a telephone registration. Follow the live confirmation prompt for text or email.
- Save the registration number, then acknowledge telephone alerts with the PIN when the service calls.
The official evidence ties the PIN to telephone calls. It does not say that email uses the same PIN, so follow the live email or text confirmation process. Protect PINs, registration numbers, and account details. Registration is anonymous to the person in custody, but the confirmation credentials still deserve care.
Jackson County Alert Systems Differ
Jackson County also operates an official “Jackson County Sheriff NC” mobile app. It is a separate local information channel, not the NC SAVAN system. The sheriff page links both Apple and Android versions. Current app features can change, and the research did not verify that the app maintains a release list or sends the same custody events as VINELink.
Do not assume a general sheriff-app push notice created a VINE registration. For custody alerts, open the matched VINELink record and complete its notification steps. Treat app notices as local agency information that may cover news, office messages, or other functions. If the app presents an inmate feature later, confirm its agency, update date, and exact scope before treating it as a custody source.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office page is the official source for its app links. NC SAVAN remains the state notification layer. Keeping both channels distinct prevents a user from waiting for a VINE event after subscribing only to a general sheriff app.
Jackson County and NCDAC Alerts
A Jackson County jail alert concerns the county custody event. It may report release, transfer, or another status sent from the jail. Call Jackson County Detention at 828-586-2458 when the destination or release type matters. Request the existing booking/release record for a durable account of date, time, release code, and transfer notation where those fields exist.
An NCDAC alert concerns state prison or state correction data. NCDAC OPI can show inmate status, a separate probation/parole/post-release status, and sentence or date fields that vary by record. A state prison release with active post-release supervision means physical prison custody ended while the correctional sentence continued in the community. Use the state offender number to keep the alert and OPI record aligned.
A person who bonded out from Jackson County and never entered state custody may have no NCDAC prison record. Conversely, a person transferred from Jackson County to NCDAC has not yet returned to the community. VINELink can carry both kinds of agency data, but the reporting agency and status label determine which event occurred.
Note: County and state alerts can describe different custody stages for the same person, so retain each reporting agency.
Jackson County VINELink Limits
VINELink is designed for notification, not guaranteed instant or error-free proof. Data can lag. A participating record can close. Spelling and identity choices can produce a missed match. A release alert can also mark the end of one agency's custody while a transfer or detainer keeps the person confined elsewhere. Personal safety decisions should not rest on the alert alone; contact the responsible agency.
The service does not replace the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator. A federal record belongs in the BOP system, and federal supervised release appears through the federal court process. Immigration custody uses ICE's locator and information channels. The North Carolina SBI Sex Offender Registry is also separate and offense-limited. It is not a broad release search, and most released people have no duty to appear there.

Confirm Jackson County VINELink Releases
First, identify the agency named on the alert. For another jail, federal prison, or ICE custody, contact that custodian rather than asking Jackson County to certify another agency's event.
The best proof chain is simple: matched identity, exact VINELink status, named reporting agency, then the official record from that agency. This keeps a fast alert useful without turning it into a claim the service cannot support.
